If I'm absent and miss a test, I have to retake it usually in the teacher's "ward/office/department".
There's an English department, Math department, Science department, etc.
I sometimes overhear them talking.
They talk about students, a lot. Sometimes their personal lives. At least, this is what it normally consists of when I hear it anyway.
"He was so completely rude. So unappropriate. It makes you wonder who raises him."
"Ugh...I had to work full shift at my second job Saturday. My boss messed up my schedule. I mean, the money's nice....so exhausted, though."
"A lot of my kids are complaining about the test that the department set up. I dunno. I haven't really looked it over thoroughly, to be honest."
"Once you're married, your entire life changes...you no longer live JUST for your parents."
"She's a REALLY good artist. I can't belive how good some of these students can draw."
"My husband wants a boy. I want a girl. He's like, "no, no, someone to carry on the name..." but boys are roudy. I'd do better raising a girl."
"Me? Tired? B!tchy? No. Not at all..."
"Ah well, don't bother about him. He likes to play teacher's pet. Rather typical."
"I met with her mother the other day. They look so much alike. They're both very nice, too."
"You have him in your class, too..? Yeah, good luck with that."
"I tried to tell him to be quiet, but he wouldn't. Now he's mad at me for sending him to detention. Pft. Teenagers. Never fail to be rational. Or at least realistic."
"I think I might have left the fridge door open...Hope not. Don't want the dog getting in there."
"I have to go. The daycare called - my son's sick. I'm going to take him home. See you later guys."
"Some of them get the concept quite easily, but most of them look at me as if I'm speaking in a foreign language. And is that you're tea, or mine?"
"I need a nap."
"I'M SO GLAD IT'S FRIDAY."
It's sort of funny looking at "their space". I feel sort of intrusive at times. You can't help it though. It's really cluttered. I love it especially if they scold you for being disorganized.
The calanders are colored and decorated, holidays in bold. There's food - crumbs everywhere. Random, cheesy, yet mildly funny quotes hanging on the walls. Pictures of their families.
I also had to make a call to my doctor in study hall once. I made the call in one of the departments. At first I was alone, which was good, but then 3 teachers come in at the same time. I didn't think they were listening to me on the phone, because they were carrying on with their own conversations, but then I talk to the teacher at the end of the day (she let me use the phone) and she told me, "Yeah, they were all talking about you. They said you sounded really upset and wanted to know what was wrong."
I'm like...What. o.O
You don't really think about it, but they probably talk about you a lot. At least....I don't think about it. xD
They gossip a lot. :P
