Well I can't say I don't know this dude because I'm an F1 fan, but many people in America don't know Lewis Hamilton. He was the first Black person to compete in Formula One when he debuted in 2007. He one the world championship last year on the last corner of the last race. One of the most exciting sporting events I have seen.

I'll try and say this with as little racial prejudice as possible. One I don't like this reason but there is some truth to the fact slave owners try to make the slaves have kids and usually put 2 very strong ones together to get a stronger child. Second like real estate it's location, location, location. Lets take the two main winter sports, hockey and basketball. In inner cities what is one more likely to find a bball court or hockey rink. Where are a good number of African Americans living, inner cities. Another reason is similar to the one above, cost. How much can one spend on basketball. $3 starburys and $5 for a ball and then go to a street. Hockey can cost thousands and a lot of people can't afford that.

Earl "The Goat" Manigault......the greatest basketball player ever according to Kareem-Abdul Jabbar. He reportedly could jump high enough to snatch quarters or dollar bills off the top of the backboard...may be a little exaggeration though since he was only 6' 1"....he also reportedly reverse-dunked 36 times in a row to win a $60.00 bet.

Edit...I see what you're trying to say....I only offered "The Goat" since hardly no-one has ever heard of him outside of street ballers since his life wound up such a mess...had he advanced in basketball as he could have, we would have had a MJ back in the seventies and one that gave up 7 inches in height...an amazing, sad story. I played lots of playground ball and high school ball back then and never recalled any of the playground kids talking about emulating him....he was unknown in my neck of the woods ( near northside Milwaukee)
