What do you have to do in your state to get the death penalty?

Like in LA if you rape a child under 12 you may be facing the death penalty.

Can you tell me what you have to do in your state and what state you're from?

Also if you can here's my other question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmLZR...

Thanks to all who answers!

LA does not put people to death for raping a child under 12. The U.S. Supreme Court has said that for rape and child molesting, the death penalty violates the 8th Amendment (Cruel and Unusual Punishment). Until the Supreme Court overturns this decision, no state can execute someone for these crimes. Look up Kennedy v. Louisiana.

And think about it: If they were to get the death penalty for molesting a child, what is to prevent them from killing the child afterward? It would be one less person that could point their fingers at them and tell the authorities that they did it. If you child was molester, would you want them back with you alive, or would you want to also be planning their funeral service?

"Can you tell me what you have to do in your state and what state you're from?" - I live in MN, and we do not have the death penalty for any crime. After the Dru Sjodin murder in 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dru_Sjodin ), it was proposed to bring it back, but the state legislation shot it down.

The bleeding heart liberal idiots who run my stste (New Mexico) just abolished the death penalty. So if you are into raping and murdering children or any of that stuff remember. Bill Richardson has the welcome mat out for you!!
