Can newspaper pots be planted with the plant in the garden?

yes they can ,you also lay newspaper down for weed prevention which if you receive news paper in the mail and decide to toss it in your recycle bin this is the cheapest weed protection you can buy even though news paper takes more time to degrade your plant will survive and be healthy and it also will hold more moisture therefore you need to use less waterSource(s): over 100 house plants

i plant all my early seeds in newspaper pots
i love them, but they dont disintegrate as quick as i would like
so when i am planting out, i water them, peel the paper off, plant the plug, and put the newspaper in the composter

Yes, I remember making those years ago.
They will disintegrate once the plant gets established
