If I buy spotted corydoras, is it better buy an odd or even number?

In another question I had asked, someone mentioned that odd numbers are always better for schools.

I have a 10 gallon (with heater, filter, several silk plants and a tufa stone rock with a hole to swim through) and want to also get a betta... should I get 3, 4, 5, or 6 spotted corys?

Also, I will be buying food for the corys of course, but will they also eat the algae that will inevitably grow on the tufa stone and rocks?

THANKS! =)

Update:

could I maybe get 3 albino corys/3 spotted corys and a betta? Or is this pushing it? I'd like to get a mixture of the cories but I know they're supposed to be in groups of at least 3...
