Why did the series "Home Improvement" end?

Had it just run it's course or was it cancelled? I had heard a bogus rumor that Disney cancelled it because JTT announced he was gay, so now I'm seeking the real reason.

The reasons did not have anything to do with JTT, and hes not gay anyway.

But Tim Allen said it just ran its course and wanted to do more movies.

The E! True Hollywood Story of Home Improvement tells all about it.

I don't think a series would ever end just because someone is gay. That's ridiculous.

I think the show had just run it's course, it was on for 8 seasons. Most successful sitcoms will only make it 5 or 6 at best. The kids were getting older as well, which was harder because a lot of the comedy revolved around interactions with the "kids".

it had to end because the kids would be going off to college (in the story line) and they were a huge chunk of the show. plus, the Mark character had lost his innocence and become a strange, lanky, awkward weirdo.

I think it was cancelled because it was hard to come up with story ideas.
