In search of good new progressive rock bands?
I have always been a fan of good Prog Rock. I listen to bands like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, UK, the Nice (but don't get along the ELP's excesses) and Pink Floyd.
However, these are all old bands (as much as I love them all) and I would love to discover good new prog rock bands from more recent times. Also, I would like to discover bands from outside the UK (England seemed to have the monopoly on the best Prog Rock bands).
Has the time of Prog Rock passed or are there great bands out there just waiting for me to discover them? I suppose one could argue that Radiohead are a modern Prog Rock group but I already know about them.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Porcupine Tree
Marillion (lovely debut & follow up album)
Royal Hunt
Karmakanic

Dream Theater
(albums : images and words, scenes from a memory, falling into infinity..these 3 albums can be called prog rock also..though they have some metal elements too...rest of DT stuff are pure prog metal)
Opeth (album : Damnation)
There r quite a few really brilliant prog bands in the underground these days..just need to find them..and i dont think radiohead is complex enough to be called prog rock..just alternative rock imo

TOOL without a doubt.
Their second album Aenima is a masterpiece of painstakingly articulated angst.
There's an unrelenting intensity that finds final release in closing track "3rd Eye" which opens with a Bill Hicks spoken monologue intro.
Oh it's amazing.
Not just your average bellowing Rock band,
something very unique.

Check out: Animals as Leaders, Bulb(or periphery instrumentals), Circles, Agora, Chimp Spanner, Mastodon(if you like baroness you have to know these guys), Cloudkicker, Hydrodjent, Nevermore, The Stick Men, Adrian Belew power trio(some prog, some pop), Allan Holdsworth, Guthrie Govan, The Jelly Jam, Platypus, and Kings X. you probobly know of them already, but they werent on the list, so listen to Fates Warning and Queensryche as well. i would subscribe to deicbel magazine. its all metal, but has some great prog bands

Hallo dear Del-icio.What a surprise to see you here, asking a question.
Hm,I remember that you once gave the information that you like the music of the good older Bands like Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple, well if my remembrance is right(correct me if not). Therefore I have 2 or 3 recommendations of good new innovative Rock bands for you.And here they are:
1)The american band "The Parlor Mob" and their very new(Just released)first album "And you were a crow".Their style is a little bit like
that of Led Zeppelin but without being only a bad copy of them.Their
singing Front-man has a very strong and similar voice like the young
Robert Plant in his early days.Look for videos of them on You tube if you like.
2)The australian band Wolfmother. They have a very unusual style hardly to describe.Their music shows influences of good older groups like Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple,Whitesnake,T-Rex,The Who,and others but they are very special and their music is powerful and innovative.
3)The other australian band that I want to recommend is the band called Airbourne and their style is the so called stoner-rock a little bit
like the old AC/DC but faster in their tempo of playing.
So that are my recommendations to your unusual but interesting question.I hope that I could be helpful for you.My best wishes to you all
here on yahoo, and especially to you dear Del-icio.I do appreciate very
much that you continue here on yahoo. All the very best to you from
Heidelberg/Germany from Stefan K feat.Dr.Nirokay.
