I, too, live in CA and clean small offices,and Corkie gave you some good ideas, I'll give you some more. You didn't say whether you're going to do residential or commercial. Either way, you may want to consider magnetic signs and/or a vinyl wrap for you vehicle-it's a great moving billboard.
You'll need to call around to other cleaning companies (pretend to be a potential customer) to get a feel for pricing. Be sure to do it by the sq ft-not hourly.
If you're going to do offices, target independent businesses and look for newly, or almost, completed office complexes. Hunt down the construction supervisor or leasing agent and find out who to contact.
For residential, I have a friend who targets country clubs and gyms with her fliers and business cards. She says it works, if they can afford the dues, they can afford having a cleaning person.
