You have pretty good information already, it seems. The only thing left to answer is your last question about why the piracy has increased in recent years. That has happened for two reasons. Reason #1 is because it worked. It was a very easy way for impoverished villains to make lots of money very quickly, and it still seems to work pretty well -- even with the most powerful navies in the world actively fighting against piracy.
Reason #2 is because the pirates made so much money from earlier raids that they were able to buy the latest technology, which makes it easier for them to keep on raiding.
*** On a side note, I was just talking with another professor about this the other day. We were discussing why no one invades Somalia. That is a great question! Why not? All the most powerful countries in the world don´t seem to know exactly where the pirates are, but they do know that they come from Somalia and that the government in Somalia almost doesn´t exist. If there was ever a country screaming to be invaded and put in order, I would say it was Somalia.
