Setting is NY and Long Island during the Jazz Age (1920's)

The Great Gatsby talks of the American dream corrupted by materialism and immorality. Gatsby tackles issues such as the American dream, wealth and class, materialism, and marital infidelity.

The mood is cynical and ironic.
