    Hmm.......

You may start with Diana Krall, Norah Jones or Amos Lee........

Then if you ready to get something "heavier" check out Bill Withers, David Benoit, George Benson, Al Jarreau, Art and Pepper, Wes Montgomery

The real deal are Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones and John Coltrane

start with the big 3 "red and white" cover jazz titles on Atlantic, circa 1959/1960, namely

    1. Ornette Coleman's "The Shape of Jazz to Come."

    2. John Coltrane's "Giant Steps."

    3. Charles Mingus' "Blues & Roots."

all 3 are stone-cold classics that you simply cannot go wrong with.

John Coltrane- My Favorite Things, Miles Davis (of course), Earl Klugh (good guitarist).

If you want something a little new that might be good for someone just getting into jazz, check out Robert Glasper (especially joints like "canvas")
