「estimate」與「appraise」的差別？

(C) appraised

(D) displayed

書上給的答案是(C)，解析是：本題考單字，「appraise」一字為「估計」東西價值，故答案為(C)。

然後底下的單字解釋「estimate」：(v.) 估計；評價

我覺得它解析得很爛，因為這樣我根本不懂那為什麼「estimated」就不是答案呢？

請告訴我為什麼？謝謝！

我在字典查到的例句：

「The value of the painting was estimated at several thousand pounds.」-- 這幅畫的價值估計有幾千英鎊。

像它在這裡估計一幅畫的價錢用的就是「estimate」這個單字啊！

estimate = general speaking

原題:

The painting was ____ and found to have a value exceeding $500,000.

題目很明確的說出一個價錢了..很明顯為 professional's estimate

你的例子,

「The value of the painting was estimated at several thousand pounds.」

由此可看出只是個初步估計, 之後等價錢出來, 就會改成用appriased

這裡的中文翻譯並不是很好, appraise在這裡專指估計東西的

金錢價值, 像是藝術品, 古董等, 所以翻成"鑑定"或是"鑑價"

會比較好.

estimate則是指一個大略的估計, 可以是價錢, 也可能是人數,

重量, 大小等任何計量單位. 題目裡提到的是鑑定一幅畫的價錢,

所以用appraise比用estimate適當.
