Why the Hell did the Mariners pass up on Tim Lincecum in the Draft?

In 2006 the Seattle Mariners had the 5th overall pick, and selected Pitcher Brandon Morrow out of Cal Berkley. Everyone expected the Mariners to draft Lincecum, but they didnt. This move shocked everyone because Lincecum was born and raised in the State of Washington (where the M's play). He also played College Ball at Washington University. He was a HOMETOWN KID...how do you not draft him? Leading up to the draft everyone expected and anticipated the Mariners to draft him, but they passed up on the Hometown kid and went with Brandon Morrow (not living up to the hype).

My question: Why do you think the Mariners passed up on Lincecum? All Mariner fans wanted him leading up to the draft.

*The M's also passed up on Clayton Kershaw, he was drafted 2 spots after Morrow.
Update: @ Antonio- No its different from any other scenerio. Lincecum was Born and Raised in Washington. All the fans expected to get him....even according to Mock Drafts he was the Best Pitcher available.
