辭職 英文fired 炒魷魚的由來

如題

中文的炒魷魚 知識+上有... 個人覺得有點瞎

但英文 fired

不要說是跟中文一樣的由來然後傳到國外

    「炒」字來自粵語「炒魷魚」,但是為什麼辭退僱員會與炒魷魚拉上關係呢?

    原來在舊社會很多人從鄉下出城打工謀生,老闆除了付工資,還包工人的食宿。那些工人隨身衣物不多,但一定帶備私人的鋪蓋(通常是草蓆一張)。被老闆解僱,自然要收拾衣物離開,草蓆則要捲起以便攜帶。把魷魚切片放進鑊裡炒時,魷魚受熱會捲起,恰好相似捲起草蓆的形狀,所以「炒魷魚」便成「解僱」的代名詞。通常的用法是「某某人被老闆炒魷魚」、「老闆炒某某人魷魚」或乾脆說某某人被「炒」了。

    普通話也有用「捲鋪蓋」代表離職,粵語中相應的說法是「執包袱」,把衣物收拾放在布包帶走也。解僱某人可以說成「叫佢執包袱」。

    無獨有偶,英語中也有一模一樣的用法。魷魚遇fire就捲曲有如捲鋪蓋,fire作為動詞用便是「解僱」的意思。

    如果你有炒魷魚的做菜經驗, 是否有注意到魷魚炒前與炒後的變化, 炒前牠是平的, 炒後她是圈曲的, 有工作時, 生活是很平順的, 但被資遣後, 就沒錢要如何生活, 日子就會很難過, 常常會遇到曲折的事!

    www大大所引述的fired說法也有道理, 也算是某一派老外的見解.

    不過, 如果說"You are fired"等同於"I fire you out of a gun", 倒令人覺得有點扯呢! :D

While having no connection to fire (yes, fire bad)--this one belongs in the verb category due to it meaning to fire out of a gun or expel from a job.

    By the 1870's already--many were using the variation of "fire out" rather than telling someone they were "fired." The way it's used now, it almost sounds like a connection to fire and implying someone was just...well, flamed. Because guns were a part of life in earlier America, it's not all that surprising a neologism started using a metaphor for guns. .....
