1.He was a successful scientist who invented a Time Machine.
2. He was a scientist who succeeded in inventing a Time Machine.

He was a scientist who succesfully invented a Time Machine

There are no right or wrong answers to this, I'll illustrate some correct examples, as follows:
If your sentence begins with
1. John has done many great things for the society, died at the age of 60, he was a successful scientist who invented "Time machine"> Correct
2. In the 19th century, scientist from all over the world scrambled to figure out a method to travel back in time, many failed to make it except John, he was the scientist who succeeded with the invention of "Time Machine" > Correct
Grammatical errors on No.2, Succeeded in inventing > Wrong
If I have to choose an answer, I would choose No.1
There are different ways of writing this, let me know if you are not comfortable with the explaination!!!!
