1.A siphon allows liquid to flow nonstop from one container over a barrier and into another container that is below the first. Usually a tube of rubber is bent to make two arms of unequal length. The short arm is put into the container of liquid to be emptied; the longer one is led over the edge of one container into another. To start the liquid moving through the siphon, it must first be filled with the liquid. When the short arm is put in the liquid, it flows out of the container continuously, so long as the end of the longer arm is kept below the level of the liquid in the container.

2.Fiber optics is a new field of technology which uses the property of fine glass fibers to transmit light. When a ray of light enters one end of a glass fiber, it does not pass out through the side. Instead it is reflected back inside from the inner surface. This is because it strikes this surface at an angle greater than a certain critical angle..The internally reflected ray then travels to the opposite side of the fiber and strikes that at a similar angle. It again undergoes total internal reflection, and travels back again to the other side. This process continues all the way along inside the fiber until, at the end, the light ray emerges.

3.The automatic teller machine, or ATM, is one of the first examples of smart technology made available to the public. Banks give their customers plastic cars to use in ATMs. The card has a magnetic strip encode with customer account details. When a customer puts a card into the slot of an ATM, the machine reads the strip and asks for the customer’s personal identification number, or PIN. The ATM then checks computer records. If the PIN is correct for the card, the customer can withdraw money, check their account balance, or make other enquires.
