A 45 ACP delievers around 350 foot-pounds of enery at 25 yards.
The Max effective range is 100 yards.
But even at 250 yards, will pentrate 4 inch's of white pine, vs 6 inchs at 25 yards.
The problem is accuracy,
At 25 yards, your talking +/- 0.86 "
At 50 yards , your talking +/- 1.36 "
At 75 yards, your talking +/- 2.24 "
In truth, trying to hit anything more than 20 feet away in a combat situation without extended practice is hard to do.

That would depend is the round coming out of a rifle type of weapon or a pistol type. The 45 ACP will go a lot farther if it is coming out of say a tommy gun versus a 1911A1. The same can be said of the 45 long. The length of the barrel determines accuracy over long range. In pistols there is little difference between them in rifles the long round will win due it having more propellant than the ACP round. Also the ACP round is a slow mover only 800 fett per second a dogs age in bullet terms.

Depends on the gun firing the rounds as to the effective range, and the energy or speed.
A good handgun is usually effective up to about 50 yards.
