Post 1- I am currently living and working in Boston. Hope English is fine as I do not have access to Chinese input from work. Besides, my Chinese typing will take me forever. :-) Also, it looks like I can only type short message, so I will make several posts.
In Fact, Boston has become more and more convenient in terms of Asian goods. There are several large Asian supermarkets provides everything from cell phones, videos and CDs to jewelry, beauty supplies and clothes, food and general medicines...etc.
I would say you do not need to bring too much stuff from Taiwan as it will not only be costly on the luggage charge but also difficult to handle for traveling. I am not sure if it is worthy the trouble and if it will save your cost. After graduated from Graduate school, I have been living here for more than 10 years and I cannot think of anything that I need to rely on the supplies from Taiwan. Besides, if it is only 1 year, I recommend you to try exploring local life and using local stuff. So, you will have true all around American experiences.
However, if you do have preferences on some of items as following, you may bring some just to feel the comfort from home town:
1) Medicines - If you have regularly taking certain medicines whether it is for maintenance (Wan Jing Oil, green oil- you can also get them from here actually) or illness, you may consider bring them as only certain medicines you can buy them from the open shelves of pharmacies and for majority you will need doctors prescriptions (even birth control pills need prescriptions). In the meantime, try packing them separately in your luggages to avoid causing issues going through U.S. Customs.

熱水瓶 is good. But if you are going to be here only for a year, it probably doesn't make sense to bring or buy one. There is a kind of electric kettle that is cheap and can boil water really quickly.
Post 2 - with my other account. I am still learning to use this "knowlege" function. :-)
2)you can get 熱水瓶 from Chinese supermarket or Chinatown. You can also get 大同電鍋 here (see links below). For 10-cup one, it is around US$75 before shipping which is not too bad considering saving your trouble bring it. It is still the best among all rice cookers. My sister insisted me to bring one to USA during my last trip back to Taiwan. Therefore, I have one but I go out dinning often, so I don't use it often and it occupies big space of my counter top.
3) As far as baby stuff, there are many discount stores like TJMax and Marshall offer good stuff at very cheap prices.
4) Chinese gifts - it is always good idea to bring some small gifts representing Chinese culture. I found that the best are those Chinese jade ropes from Taiwan jade flea markets. We really do a great job in weaving the ropes. Although you can find these items from local Chinatown in Boston, they are not as delicate as those made in Taiwan flea markets. I normally wrap these jade ropes in the red jewelry fabric/velvet) bags (get from Taiwan jewelry stores) for the expensive look and give my friends for their birthday or other occasions. They love them very much.
As far as bringing something from Taiwan to sell in USA, I can not think of any. You can get almost everything here nowadays!
Hope the above helps!!
