I need some help with the emission spectrum?
How can you determine an object's surface chemical composition, surface temperature and speed at which the object is moving away from us by studying the object's spectrum?

use a spectroscope to examine a light source.
determine temperature by comparison to an ideal blackbody.
determine chemical composition by looking for gaps, called Fraunhoffer absorption lines. there is a unique spectral signature for every type of atom, and chemical.
determine speed by looking at the doppler shift (aka red-shift) of the sourceSource(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_body http://ioannis.virtualcomposer2000.com/spectroscop... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_shift
