pride, avarice, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth. There is no foundation in the Bible for this classification, but the above list has been found in the works of several spiritual writers and theologians, including Saint Thomas Aquinas, a leading Roman Catholic theologian during the 13th century. Aquinas slightly modified the earlier lists of Saint John Climacus and Saint Gregory the Great. These seven sins are not singled out because they are all grievous sins or because of their severity, but because they are the inevitable source of other sins.

There is nowhere in the Christian Bible that a specific list of the Seven Deadly Sins is given, although lists of virtues contrasted with lists of sins are found in certain books of the New Testament, such as the Epistle to the Galatians. The modern concept of the Seven Deadly Sins is linked to the works of the 4th century monk Evagrius Ponticus, who listed eight "evil thoughts" as follows (Refoule, 1967):

Gluttony; fornication; avarice; sorrow; anger; discouragement; vainglory; pride.

The first three of these sins, as Refoule explains, link to lustful appetite; anger links with the irascible; and vainglory and pride link with the intellect. Some years after Ponticus, in 590 AD, Pope Gregory I (Pope Gregory the Great) would revise this list to form the more common "Seven Deadly Sins".

The Se7en sins are: Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, pride, and envy. Envy was the last one, that was the one that got John Doe in the end.

They are not specifically in the Bible, but developed during the Middle Ages. But different writers used slightly different lists so they're not always the same.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (New King James Version)

These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

    · A proud look,

    · A lying tongue,

    · Hands that shed innocent blood,

    · A heart that devises wicked plans,

    · Feet that are swift in running to evil,

    · A false witness who speaks lies,

    · And one who sows discord among brethren.

They are the opposite of the Beatitudes that Jesus spoke about. Hence the need for Sacred Tradition.
