what year did they "discover" that marijuana can cause cancer?

i believe this is a wives tale but if anyone knows, and esp if u can site a source, that would be greatly appreciated

yeah prove that. CITE YOUR SOURCES

Update 2:

to lou splo:

no it actually is not unethical to try to prove or disprove marijuana can cause cancer. what gives you that idea? Marijuana is actually incredibly harmless, given that the individual is properly educated about the plant and its psychological/physiological effects. Let me give u a good example: If an individual were forced, as you say, to smoke marijuana, and was not told at all how it would effect them in those two aspects, this person would be at higher risk to smoke the entire given portion, then go out and try to drive his car. All the while, say this is his 3rd or 4th time smoking and assume he has acquainted himself with the herb at this point. This association with weed is the best way to explain what happens when someone is familiar with its effects. You may develop a thought syndrom, for lack of better term, basically where one becomes one with the plant and is able to explore philosophical viewpoints. This is one reason it can be important if not vital to smoke

Update 3:

with a smoking buddy. If one can not keep strong rhetorical thoughts at bay, one can have what is known as a "bad trip" So, ppl that are experienced with weed tell their smoking buddy, hey man, quit thinking so hard! just chill out. One thing that i know people like to do when smoking are things like playing guitar, or drawing. these both work the right, creative, side of the brain, and leaves less time for mindless wander. This is important to know about smoking cannabis. Unless one is willing to delve spiritually, which has been proven to be beneficial(, activities like playing guitar drawing or outdoor activities as well like sports, movies, hiking, etc, should be taken place. They act as somewhat of a place taker for the smoking buddy, as the focus on the activity at hand and the thought processes that may occur during smoking are split so as to avoid a focus. This make any sense at all to u?

Update 4:

and i know i got way off topic there, but that just disproves that cannabis is unethical to force someone to try to smoke. see the thing is, is people know that there is nothing psychologically wrong with smoking weed, given proper education about the zen that is marijuana. so, like other vices, such as alcohol and tobacco (which mind, DO have records of killing countless people, every year. yet, there still seems to be no recorded deaths associated with marijuana.), people still choose to smoke marijuana, whether its for medicinal purposes, or because they live in legalized locations. So, obviously, testing the theory of whether cannabis kills people or not is not unethical, you just ask for volunteers and they have no liability to get in trouble since they are, afterall, "proving this fact" (as the uh, anti marijuana people believe it to be), proving that "fact" will make it where they are if anything doing people a favor. if people knew marijuana were so deadly, they'd quit smoking

Update 5:

just thought i'd point out how no, its not unethical. have a nice day.

Update 6:

Update 7:

quick question have u ever tried to do nonbiased research or do u only look for sources that cite what u think is true? just curious.

Marijuana contains more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and because marijuana smokers usually inhale deeper and hold the smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers, their lungs are exposed to those carcinogenic properties longer.

One study found that marijuana smokers were three times more likely to develop cancer of the head or neck than non-smokers.

Research indicates that THC impairs the body's immune system from fighting disease, which can cause a wide variety of health problems. One study found that marijuana actually inhibited the disease-preventing actions of key immune cells. Another study found that THC increased the risk of developing bacterial infections and tumors.

Young men who began using marijuana as adolescents or who smoke pot at least once a week appear to be twice as likely to develop testicular cancer as those who never used the drug.

The association, as reported by researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, was strongest with nonseminoma, an aggressive, fast-growing subtype of testicular cancer that typically strikes men between ages 20 and 35.

Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users' risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana.

    Smoke up for YOUR health.

I bypass the sites that don't have a legitimate name, like and objective and Those sites are obviously biased.

I can cite many more legitimate sites, but I'm done. You can try to justify pot smoking. There's very few who will agree with you. I even found a site that states cigarettes prevent some cancers. That's just as silly as saying pot does.

I also believe it's not true. Many people who smoke pot also smoke cigarettes, so it's likely that the tie-in between pot & cancer springs from that.

Cigarette tobacco is known to be deliberately laced with many poisonous cancer-causing chemicals to increase addiction and improve the nasty taste, among other things (Google "chemicals in cigarettes" for a complete list). Unadulterated marijuana is far better for you since it's pure herb and nothing but the herb.

Sure it may make the user a bit goofy and downright stupid at times, but I'd rather be a healthy fool than a dead genius.

There is is ZERO evidence that cannabis causes cancer. Smoking anything is bad for you, though, and mixing it with tobacco makes it both much more addictive and potentially carcinogenic.

Cannabis equally has no known toxic level, in other words, you can smoke and smoke and smoke, and all you'll end up doing is stuffing your lungs up with gunk, but you simply cannot overdose or die from cannabis poisoning.

Of course, it is best known for its medicinal benefits for those already suffering from cancer - pain relief, appetite stimulant, stress relief, etc. Actually, it's usually more important for relief from the toxic and criminal treatments modern medicine uses when they experiment on dying patients, usually only to worsen their quality of life withOUT prolonging it.

Take the beetroot, carrot, apple, celery and parsley juice cure. It works.

It is actually unethical to design a scientific experiment that would prove definitively that pot causes cancer....

To do so you would need to randomly select two groups of people and force one group to smoke pot, and force the other group to not touch the stuff, then see if there is any statistical difference. I doubt there would be. I think there are so many things out there to cause cancer other than pot.....

    i don't think they have....

it's actually been proven that marijuana smoke can break up the tar build up in your lungs from cigarettes (The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer - chock full of great info and history)
