Considering the hypocrisy in US foreign relations with Iran, 'forked tongue' would be an accurate description. For example:
We tout democracy as an ideal and still seem to hold a grudge for the Iranian Hostage Crisis in the 70's. Yet we conveniently overlook that the US was instrumental in overthrowing Iran's democratically-elected leadership in the 50's to install the Shah of Iran. The taking of hostages was, in large part, "blowback" for over twenty years under the oppressive regime of our "friend", the Shah.

And even more recently... Iran was initially helping us fight terrorism, until they were branded by the last administrations with the "Axis of Evil" label. "Funny" thing that in the "War on Terror", we would shoot ourselves in the foot.

"Prior to the speech, the Iranian government had been very helpful in the US fight against the Taliban, since the Taliban and Iran were enemies. [Newsweek, 2/12/2007] At the time, al-Qaeda operatives has been streaming into Iran from Afghanistan following the defeat of the Taliban. Iran has been turning over hundreds of suspects to US allies and provided US intelligence with the names, photographs, and fingerprints of those it is holding."
EFPs... an interesting article that got very little (any?) mainstream media attention...

The Bush administration has claimed that RPG-29s were Iranian-made. However, back in 2005 and 2006, British and US officials identified the RPG-29s as Russian-made, imported by Syria, then passed on to Hezbollah and smuggled across the Syrian-Iraq border. Now, they tell us that the armor-piercing Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs), that were killing US troops, were coming from IRAN... despite the forensic evidence indicating that they were inferior in quality, consistent with the manufacturing capabilities found in EFP factories that US forces discovered in IRAQ.
Not the first time the term 'forked tongue' has been used... Native Americans have said the same thing because of numerous broken treaties and trade goods that included rotgut whiskey and pox-infected blankets.

Almost all politicians - regardless of nationality - often speak with a forked tongue. This isn't an American thing. This isn't an Iranian thing. This is a politician thing.

yes, and so do many politicians all over the world. it's sad that people blindly rely on such politicians.
Carl Schurz, a major general in the Union Army and then a senator, who said: “Our country, right or wrong. When right, it ought be kept right; when wrong, to be put right.”

They want to start a new beginning with Iran. Lovely. But are they going to? They are embracing the Taliban and not Iran. Hmm.

A theocratic dictatorship accusing America of lying?
The pot, calling the kettle black?
Of course our own politicians NEVER lie.
America has the best politicians that money can buy!!
AIG has bought several of them, and got billions in return, plus handsome bonuses for their execs.

You can say that of any country when it is trying to protect its interests. But do you trust anything coming from a government run by mullahs. Remember Khomeini in the Carter days, what a kindly face he had. The man was evil. Do they still stone women there for letting the wind uncover their heads?
