or this variation:
Cuando mis hermanos estan enfermos(descontentos, tristes), mi familia siempre les hace algo para que se sientan contentos (alegres, mejor,felices).
You need to clarify whether you mean physically "bad" or emotionally bad because depending on that you could choose better words in Spanish to describe the "bad" and the "good."
UPDATE: ok since you just need level 1 Spanish go with this;
Cuando mis hermanos estan malos, mi familia siempre hace algo para que esten contentos." ......this is grammatically correct and makes sense, but its not the best way of saying...but I understand your situation though...language classes are so terrible, limited in scope and focus, and severely lacking...your teacher should have encouraged you to use any words, just because it wasnt in your book is a lame excuse...that is what dictionaries are for, and asking your friends and asking people on Yahoo Answers, so you can learn more vocabulary, but it seems your teacher prefers to limit your vocabulary instead of encouraging you to expand it...shame on teachers like this...good luck with your classes
