Heritage or hate; what do you think about the Confederacy?

When you see images such as the Confederate Battle Flag

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Battle_flag_of_t...

or see a Confederate veteran

or hear a tune such as this one written shortly after the war

Do you link it it with Southern Heritage or Racism and hate?

Also, could you tell me if by birth if you are a southern (former CSA) or Northern (Union)?

I was born in Clark County, NV, which was claimed by the Confederacy, so I guess I would be a Rebel.

Update:

I do not mind people flying the Confederate flag, nor do i confuse it with racism.

Google "Black Confederates"

99.999% of the people got involved because they thought Lincoln exceeded his Constitutional powers.

There were scant few plantation owners in comparison to ordinary citizens back then. Anything else you hear is a myth.

Example---- The MURRAY of Alexander Murray Palmer Haley was my maternal great great great great grandfather. Contrary to the mini-series he was a relatively poor DIRT (sustenance) FARMER, not a plantation owner.

Most of MY ancestors fought the war to preserve a state's right to dissolve ties with the union, which is what the Constitution allows for, despite revisionist history's attempt to say different...

i'm from the minnesota and my friend drives around with his tailgate covered by a confederate flag. at first i thought it was supposed to be a symbol of racism and hate, but then i took the time to actually educate myself on the matter! he does it out of pride for the south, not because he's some stupid hick white supremacist! and anyone else that is confused about linking two should take a history class.

Both. It's a part of American history without a doubt, but I think that continuing to fly the Confederate flag is ridiculous.

It makes me so mad to see people still flying it. Mostly just uneducated people who still can't get over the results of the Civil War.

Hate when I see the flag.

Heritage when I see a Confederate veteran or hear a tune.

I think the flag is just used more than the others to represent the racism that went on.

Born in the "Union" part of the country.
