All the facetious and vaguely xenophobic comments don't answer your question. Someone has mentioned the Norman Conquest. This effectively resulted in the Kings of England also ruling large parts of France. This increased when the Plantagenet dynasty ruled. It was not so much a question of 'England' invading 'France' but English kings defending territories in France that they saw as their own. Don't forget that for at least 200 years following the conquest the Kings of England saw them selves basically as French and that was the language of the Court. William I always knew himself ar Guillaume and King John was really Jean.

For centuries, two very powerful countries just in front of each other and fighting for domination.

Hey, we made friends before the two world wars, even if the British media keep insulting the French lol !

To "Kal H" and "mick t": France won WW1. The Germans didn't overrun France in the first world war.

France send more soldiers than the UK in WW1 and was the main enemy of Germany on the Western front and at the end of the war, all the allies armies were under the command of the French General: Foch. The British and the Americans saved France from the German occupation in WW2, not WW1 !!! Read a history book !

Cliff's answer is a pretty good explanation for the early middle ages wars. However, following the reformation, and the establishment of the Church of England by Henry VIII, most of the European wars for the following two centuries were religious wars. France and Spain were the two Catholic powers, and were therefore in conflict with England, as a Protestant nation, sometimes supported by the Dutch and other Protestant nations in Northern Europe.

You don't specify WHEN, in history. However, if you mean during the last two world wars, it was because the Germans had already overrun much of France. The British were trying to force the Germans to leave France, not trying to attack the French people themselves.

in the long run england attacked france first. we had war because we both thought we was right and that why it was bitter wars.

england started off as vikings from denmark that attacked the french shore not invading it just raping killing stealing yano the usual from vikings lol .until the french king gave them land .then they became a kingdom called normandy they had wars with france and the they took over england and became english but still owned normandy so the french saw normandy as there because they gave it to the english in the ery begining so thye took it back and of course we saw it as ours so we both took up arms and hated each other ever since.

Both Cliff and Oracle's answers were spot on but I would just like to add after the French revulsion and during the Napoleonic wars Britain invaded France to re introduce the monarchy in the form of Louis xviii

Funny thing about England that most non-English people won't admit to, and that is this: England has beaten nearly every "european" country (not just France) in some war or other, over the last 900 years, and then, to add to their annoyance has promptly gone on to rescue them from some other adversary, often of their own making. With countries such as France we have done this several times and got absolutely no thanks for it. Instead we have got only resentment avarice and hostility. You tell me the reasons for it.
