Anime like Death Note?

Is this question even worth asking? It seems that Death Note is one of very few serious anime. I'm not looking for something like Naruto or Fullmetal Alchemist or Bleach. I want a serious, brilliant story like Death Note or Monster or Code Geass. I don't like silly little animes that try to be funny with cute unrealistic animations. If there is anything out there that you honestly think is on par with the animes I've mentioned, please share what they are.

I have to say that i've seen this question asked and have been disappointed with the answers I've seen. Don't fail me!

    Hm, well okay - something like Death Note?

    The two most obvious - Code Geass and Monster you've seen as well...

    <> Jigoku Shoujo ::: 26 episodes <>

    <> Spiral ::: 25 episodes <>

    <> Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ::: 26 episodes <>

    <> Darker than BLACK ::: 25 episodes <>

    <> Elfen Lied ::: 13 episodes <>

    Well those are the ones that I find most relevent to Death Note. You can also check some of the ones below out and see if you like them. Although your best bet for a good anime is from the ones above.

    <> Serial Experiments Lain ::: 13 episodes <>

    <> Zombie-Loan ::: 11 episodes <>

    <> Paranoia Agent ::: 13 episodes <>

    <> Claymore ::: 26 episodes <>

    I hope that helps ^_^

    Hellsing and Elfen Lied. I don't watch a lot of 'serious' animes but I still LOVE Death Note. That's my favorite. Sorry I didn't help much, but the suggestions I gave are both very good animes.

    Spiral seems to have a very um smart theme to it, like Code Geass and Death Note.

    Also give D. Gray-Man, Darker than Black, and Elfen Lied a try.

    Well, you've already seen Code Geass and Monster.

    So......... maybe Mobile Suit Gundam 00? Its got a serious story line and is a lot like Code Geass. It has one season (25 eps) and season two is currently airing (21 eps/ 25 eps)

    Thats a pretty hard question because not a lot of anime are like Death Note. Some others you might like are:

    Elfen Lied

    Darker than Black

    Ghost in the Shell movies

    Rebuild of Evangelion movies

    Neon Genesis Evangelion

    Paranoia Agent

    Serial Experiments Latin

    Appleseed (two movies)

    Those are all I can think of. Again, Death Note is very unique so finding another anime like it is pretty hard

  • I've seen a few animes LIKE Death Note, but Death Note will always for me be one of the greatest anime series ever created ♥

    *There are a few anime how ever that come close to the serious tone that Death Note has*

    Serial Experiments Lain

    Lain Iwakura appears to be an ordinary girl, with almost no experience with computers. Yet the sudden suicide of a schoolmate, and a number of strange occurrences, conspire to pull Lain into the world of the Wired, where she gradually learns that nothing is what it seems to be... not even Lain herself.

    Elfen Lied

    The Diclonius, a mutated homo sapien that is said to be selected by God and will eventually become the destruction of mankind, possesses two horns in their heads, and has a "sixth sense" which gives it telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murder most of the guards in the laboratory, only to get shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives and manages to drift along to a beach, where two teenagers named Kouta and Yuka discovers her. Having lost her memories, she was named after the only thing that she can now say, "Nyuu," and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. However, it appears that the evil "Lucy" is not dead just yet...

    In a man-made underground society, descendants of a banished generation vie for control of the crumbling city of Lux. Ichise, an orphan turned prize fighter, loses a leg and an arm to satisfy an enraged fight promoter. On the brink of death he is taken in by a young woman doctor and used as a guinea pig for the next evolution of Texhnolyze. With his new limbs, Ichise is taken under the wing of Oonishi, a powerful leader of Organ, an organization with some hold on Lux. As Ichise is drawn deeper into a war for territorial control of the city, he learns of his possible future from the young girl prophet Ran, who guides him from the shadows in his darkest times. With the explosion of the warfare, Ichise must uncover the truth about Lux and fight for his survival as he realizes his destiny.

    Darker than BLACK

    In Tokyo, an impenetrable field known as "Hell's Gate" appeared ten years ago. At the same time, psychics who wield paranormal powers at the cost of their conscience also emerged. Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival agencies vying to unlock the mysteries of Hell's Gate.

    Throughout the passage of time and the shifts in backgrounds, a particular war continues to leave its mark on history, extending its influence into the modern world. There are two major groups involved in the ensuring war. The first group consists of monsters known as Chiropterans who can change their appearances into that of human beings. They are actually immortals who feed on the blood of the living. The second group is an organisation known as the "Red Shield", formed to track down these monsters and exterminate them. Otonashi Saya is a high-school girl who lives a peaceful life with her family. The only problem is, she has no recollections of her life beyond that of the past year. However, her happy life will be destroyed by an event that will lead her to her destined fate.

    Try watching Hellsing or Blood+.

    I haven't seen it myself, but Claymore sounds like it might fit the type you're thinking of.

    Also, possibly Narutaru by the same creator.

    Now and Then, Here and There.

    Fafner in the Azure, possibly?

    Also, I've heard that RahXephon is good, though I have not seen it myself.

    Kino's Journey sure isn't like Death Note, but it is quite serious and interesting, IMHO.

    Seconding Darker Than Black and Paranoia Agent, and a lot of other anime on other people's lists.
