Jeffrey Dahmer was my favorite serial killer.
He did not become a serial killer due to his childhood, which was normal; it was his brain chemistry at fault. He had a disorder called APD, or antisocial personality disorder, which meant that he had little sympathy for the feelings of other human beings. He regarded them more as toys than peers and was a narcissist and sadist, taking sexual pleasure out of seeing them in pain. His childhood was normal until age 10, when he began to scavenge his neighborhood for dead animals to dissect. His symptoms grew severe, as he lost interest in hobbies and social activities, continuing to mess with dead animals, once putting a dog's head on a stake. He drank a lot, and by age 18 he was an alcoholic. He went to college for only one semester, dropping out. His father made him join the army, but after two years he was kicked out due to alchoholism.
As an adult, his APD symptoms grew even more severe- he stole clothed mannequins from stores, dissolved dead squirrels in chemicals (hydrochloric acid), and was arrested for masturbating in front of young boys. His grandma eventually forced him to leave because she couldn't stand his nonsense, and he rented an apartment in milwaulke, close to his job at a chocolate factory. He was later arrested for drugging and sexually touching a young boy. It was then that the murders began. The first murder happened to a male hitchhiking sexual partner, who he bludgeoned to death. He then took a break from killing for 9 years, and then began to kill again, keeping the skull of one victim. His murders grew more frequent, and sometimes he kept the bodies to decompose. The police laughed about the idea of him being a killer, and he dismembered and killed the victim who almost caused him to be captured, keeping his skull. The cops were at first fired after it was found that they made homophobic statements, but they disputed this and were reinstated. The two officers were later named cops of the year by their union, and one was eventually named president of the Milwaulke Police Association.
By 1991, Dahmer murdered at least one man per week. It would begin as a sexual encounter with another man- they would have sex, go to sleep, and in the morning, Dahmer would ask the potential victim out on a date. If the man decided to stay and bond with Dahmer, he could be set free, but if he tried to leave, Dahmer would capture him, tie him to a chair, and drill a hole in his skull, emptying household fluids into their brain cavities to turn them into zombies. The victims would die, and he would keep their heads in his freezer as trophies. He would often eat the rest of the victim or keep their parts. Cops eventually investigated the missing gay men, and the trails led to Dahmer, whose house was full of evidence. He was sentenced to several lifetimes in prison, and was eventually beaten to death by his cellmate with the same implement he used to kill his first victim- an iron bar for weights. Talk about karma!
The reason I believe he had APD is because I have studied it in depth, and nearly all serial killers have some form of it. He displayed every trait, and his treatment during childhood doesn't seem to have been bad or abnormal.
And just for fun, a scary fact: 1 in 50 people have the potential to be a psychopath. Not all become psychopaths, but they seem to have most of the necessary traits, such as a lack of respect for others and life, sexual sadism, and inappropriate emotional response.
I'm a VERY morbid person, I love reading about these things... and I have a book of serial killers.
Also, I have taken multiple courses in psychology.
