Depends on the reasons they are telling lies :

SO What is the Difference Between a Pathological, a Compulsive, a Chronic, and a Habitual Liar?

    Pathological Liar:

A pathological liar is usually defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others.

Pathological lying is often viewed as coping mechanism developed in early childhood and it is often associated with some other type of mental health disorder.

A pathological liar is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused - it is done to get one's way). Pathological liars have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. A pathological liar often comes across as being manipulative, cunning and self-centered.

This would be someone who has psychopathic tendencies.

    Compulsive Liar:

A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small.

For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right. Compulsive lying is usually thought to develop in early childhood, due to being placed in an environment where lying was necessary.

For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning (see, Pathological Liar), rather they simply lie out of habit - an automatic response which is hard to break and one that takes its toll on a relationship.

The terms Habitual Liar and Chronic Liar are often used to refer to a Compulsive Liar.

    Therefore:

Compulsive liars tend to be fantasists who lie for attention and out of habit as opposed to gaining power or money.

A pathological liar would lie on their resume to get a job, lie about their true past and class anyone who challenged them as paranoid.

A compulsive liar's motivations are simpler. They like to tell a good story. So they would lie about buying a car for $400 when it really cost them $1000. A pathological liar would would tell you he could buy the car for $400- pocket your money and disappear. Pathological liar is linked with psychopathic behaviour and this person is very much a charming, smooth talking and slick con-man.

    Hope this helps

I am disabled. My doctor and friends all consider me disabled. I work full-time. I do not get any money from the government (except the one I work for). Self-identify as a person with a disability does not mean anything more than you recognize that there is some aspect about you that lies outside the norm.
