    我小學時備受排擠.

    「排擠」在本句的意思不是身體上的推擠, 所以不宜用push out或crowd out之類的片語.

    排擠: edge out, 也就是"邊緣化"的抽象含意.

    備: in every way; often

    翻譯

I was edged out in every way while in elementary school days.

I was often edged out during my elementary school times.

    2009-02-26 09:25:03 補充:

    用isolate, exclude似乎太嚴重了些, 只用於被法律或校規強制處分方面.

    用feel shut out倒是可以.

    2009-02-26 18:00:10 補充:

    To 回答008朱哥

    to edge out 確實有邊緣化與排擠之意.

    From Cambridge Dictionary

edge out sb/sth or edge sb/sth out

to cause someone or something to gradually lose their position and to replace them with someone or something else

    2009-02-26 18:00:23 補充:

e.g. Mr James who was hired by the previous management was soon edged out by the new boss.

e.g. Foreign car manufacturers are edging domestic companies out of the markets.

    2009-02-26 18:06:04 補充:

    To age363

From TheFreeDictionary

    edge [someone] out of [something]

= to move something out of something very carefully, bit by bit.

    2009-03-01 22:41:19 補充:

    To age363

    多謝您的嘲笑, 不過我的說法是有根據的, 與程度無關. 您有什麼程度呢? 不妨先展現一下再嘲笑不遲喔!

    更正意見019:

    此外再舉一字典, From TheFreeDictionary

    edge [someone] out of [something]

to pressure someone gradually to leave something; to put gradual pressure on someone to retire from a job.

Isolated and excluded are very common usage in the US to state someone who is being 排擠.

It does NOT have the indication of 通常是受到懲處.只用於被法律或校規強制處分方面

Here, I would agree that "isolated" is a better and more common usage.

    2009-02-28 18:32:38 補充:

"edge out" is NOT the best usage here. As all the information I found about “edge out” means “to defeat (rivals or opponents) by a small margin.

    2009-02-28 18:33:01 補充:

If you use it here, people will misunderstand what you are trying to state. Instead, they will think that you mean you were defeated in everywhere by a small margin.

edge out = to defeat (rivals or opponents) by a small margin:

The home team edged out the visitors in an exciting finish.

    2009-03-02 13:47:57 補充:

    Hi, Cavalier,

Usually when you use the word "edge out", it means in a competition, so in this case it is not suitable. Isolated is a better and more accurate usage.

    2009-03-02 13:48:19 補充:

All the reference I provided even in my comment #15 and in your comments #19 and #21 all referred to situations in competition, such as edging someone out of retirement.

If what the asker is asking is more around competition, then “edge out” is the right word to use.

    2009-03-02 13:48:59 補充:

If he is merely saying that nobody liked him when he was in elementary school and they tried to distance themselves from him, didn’t want to play with him and didn’t want to have anything to do with him. Then “isolated” is the right word.

    2009-03-02 13:49:14 補充:

By the way, Yahoo dictionary is notorious for its inaccuracy. I would use an English-English dictionary, rather than an English-Chinese dictionary or Chinese-English dictionary.

    2009-03-02 14:36:22 補充:

    Hi, George

Don't want to make you feel left out or isolated! Outcast is more commonly used as 被驅逐者, 被遺棄者.

    For example:

He is an outcast from the society.

    被社會遺棄者.

His name is Nicholas and he's a bullied, friendless, dorky middle-schooler who befriends Luciano, a sullen, older boy "who is another outcast"(被排擠, 被逐出者) in the all-boys school they both go to.

    "I got bullied." 不正確

    Bully 是中文講的"霸凌"(直接音譯英文的)"霸凌"跟"被排擠"並不一樣

    "Edge out" 是"以小差距勝出"或"險勝"的意思 並沒有邊緣化之意

Japan edged out Cuba to take the first World Baseball Classic championship.

    日本險勝古巴取得第一屆世界棒球經典賽冠軍

所以 "I was edged out in every way." 變成了 "我各方面都輸人一點"

不過沒錯 中文的"受排擠" 並沒有身體上推擠的意思 它指的是人際關係上被孤立 因此看你是口語還是文章 可有不同程度的說法

    如果只是口語的話 樓上已有人講

    I wasn't well-liked.

    I was isolated.

    都算貼切 或直接講

    I was unpopular.

    但是正式的講法 應該是

    "socially secluded" 或 "socially isolated"

    加上 socially 這個字 清楚的表達"人際關係上的孤立"

    因此若你是在寫自傳 最好寫成

"I was socially secluded during my elementary school days."

    請看兩個例子:

    (1)

    "小兒與青少年婦女科醫學"期刊

(Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

    有一篇研究:

    http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S10833...

    其中有一段:

Moreover, pregnant teenage girls often come from an abusive environment and are emotionally and socially secluded.

    此外 懷孕的青少女通常來自有虐待情況的環境 而她們感情和人際關係上也都受到排擠

    (2)

    http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/49080.php

    這是一篇醫學新聞 標題就是

Socially Isolated Children May Become Unhealthy Adults

    人際關係上受排擠的小孩 長大後可能不健康

    2009-02-26 10:59:23 補充:

    抱歉 我只是舉例 並無意影射您可能不健康 若有冒犯 敬請見諒

    2009-02-26 19:09:31 補充:

    To cavalier,

I was edged out in every way
