    Jim,

I saw Portage Co., Ohio mentioned in your message. There are some McKelveys buried at the Huffman-McKelvey Cem. near Buckhorn, Missouri in Madison County. The cemetery records have a note by *John Woodward McKelvey's name that says he was born 10-9-1845 in Portage Co., Ohio and was a son of William McKelvey. His wife's name was *Hannah Barbara.

The records also say that *William McKelvey is believed to be buried there, but grave is not marked.

Do you have any information on the family of John Woodward McKelvey?

I found a record of several McKelveys buried

at Huffman-McKelvey Cemetery in Madison County, Missouri. Oldest graves are *John

Woodward McKelvey and wife *Barbara Hannah.

Notes say John was born 1845 in Portage County, Ohio. Notes also say *William McKelvey, born 1812 in Ohio is believed to be buried here. Does anyone have any information on this line of McKelveys?

Here is the data for Lora, from the social security death index. If Henry died pre 1960, this is the answer, since the COMPUTER version of the index only begins about 1960ish. If he died in the 1950s, then it makes sense why we cannot find him on there.

Getting grandma's death certificate will tell you WHERE she is buried. I am willing to bet Grandpa also is buried there.. with the name of the cemetery, you would be able to contact them for the correct dates for Henry.

I think the other lookups where Henry is found in the census are probably accurate. The hardest part to explain is that research is often a "juggling" act. Someone who was born after 1930, won't be in the census records that are open for searching. A person who died before the social security death index, has a death cert..but not on the ssdi.

now, with the names and dates

here is a file on rootsweb, with your Henry.

(that link might not work... do search for Lora Mouser, and it will pick up the file. )

    edit

now, go to the missouri database

    http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcert...

    look for mckelvey

looks like you can pick up John's death cert for free. We like free. We don't always get it, but nice when you can. *smile*

    edit..more

next, I went to search 1880 census at family search.org, and find John with his parents

John W. MC KELVEY Self M Male W 34 OH Farming OH OH

Hannah B. MC KELVEY Wife M Female W 32 HESSE DARM Housekeeping HESSE DARM WERTENBERG

John W. MC KELVEY Son S Male W 8 OH OH HESSE DARM

Mary C. MC KELVEY Dau S Female W 6 MO OH HESSE DARM

Charles W. MC KELVEY Son S Male W 5 MO OH HESSE DARM

Nora J. MC KELVEY Dau S Female W 3 MO OH HESSE DARM

David E. MC KELVEY Son S Male W 3M MO OH HESSE DARM

so, the McKelvey family is from Ohio; Henry's father's mom is Hannah, who came from Germany.
