STP contains ingredients that swell the gaskets and the clutch plate material in the transmission. It does work for a while with varying degrees of success.

It is ridiculous and completely false. There is absolutely no liquid fix that can repair a transmission. Do not use it as some here suggest. It can actually do more damage. They also have no interest in whether your car works or not. Not even for a "temporary fix". The only way to solve a problem is to properly repair it.

A VERY temporary fix at best - and then only if burnt or glazed clutches aren't the problem, which is unlikely since it's already slipping.

The theory is the seals that engage the clutches are leaking, and the petroleum based STP will cause them to swell up. Unfortunately, this will significantly also weaken the seals and eventually cause them to simply blow by anyways.

Nope... Not false... It will thicken the fluid and make it shift better for a short time.

It won't clear it up, it will make it run until you sell or trade it.

It sure aint fixing it. Its buying you time.

Tranny oil is about 10w STP is about 60w it will lubricate but it wont go thru the capillaries in the trans to properly make it operate.

Source(s): Trans fluid is RED STP is brown. Dont buy a car with brown tranny fluid.

Do not listen to that guy. Look at the STP can and try to find where it says to use it in your transmission.

Bad idea. You are better off trying to stop the cause of the slippage. Try finding a used tranny from a junk yard.

  • NOT a good idea. the oil will destroy the clutch packs. the crazy guy is no mechanic. i ll bet he works at a fast food joint.
