Gap on Full size bed for toddler?

I just bought a full size bed for my 30 month old daughter. It's pretty high above the ground but is against the wall and has a large side rail we installed. My concern is the 4 inch gap between the footboard and the bed. Is that normal ? I could just put some blankets there in the gap but I wanted to know if this is typical and isn't a reason for returning the mattress. When I bought the frame, I didn't notice a gap in the model and it could be because of the mattress.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I agree, something is off, You should check with the manuel and see what size mattress you need. Your toddler may remove the blankets and fall through the gap.
