I have heard lots of different things. tax cuts? a check in the mail? what does the new stimulus package mean!??!

The stimulus package has nothing to do with the banks. Banks and financial institutions are being assisted by TARP, which is a separate program, started when the previous president was still in office.

The stimulus package just approved includes provisions for a tax break to many or most families, which will result in checks in the mail for many. It also includes allocations to be given to many states to help them fund the rebuilding and repairs of roads, bridges, buildings, pipelines and other infrastructures. The idea is to use these projects to create or maintain jobs across the country.

It's pretty much money thrown at the banks and businesses in order to stimulate the economy by giving those banks and businesses money to employ more people.
