When an ACH deposit is rejected the IRS will cut a check and mail it to the address on your return within 4 to 6 weeks of the date that the transaction is returned to them.

If it rejected 2 weeks ago and the IRS has no record of the reject, have your bank put a trace on the reject transaction. This sound like an intermediary bank may have been involved such as for a "simple pay" transaction to pay the tax prep and filing fees out of your refund. If that was the case, the funds may be "stuck" at the intermediary bank. Your bank can trace that quickly enough and probably get the funds released in a day or so.

If you used a tax prep firm such as Block and a transaction through an intermediary bank rejected, the intermediary may have released it to the tax prep firm who would then cut a check payable to you for the refund. Check with the tax prep firm to see if they have your money.

As long as it takes for the bank to send it back.
