what are ACH debit transactions listed on account?

I saw my husband's online bank notifications and there are several ACH debits "returned unpaid" listed - his account has been overdrawn for some time, so what are these?? Does ACH debit mean that he must have signed up for something online that incurrs a re-occurring charge? Or could it mean that he used his debit card somewhere, and the store approved it but then they found out later that the payment was returned? The bank charged several NSF fees, so I'm assuming that it wouldn't be that he tried to use his debit card and it was declined for lack of funds ---- the debits were all for small amounts like $16 and $13.... And I know he doesn't have any payday loans or anything like that - so what would these transactions be? Thanks!

ACH means Automated Clearing House. These are some form of electronic transactions. They are NOT debit card transactions. You need to contact his bank for details. NO ONE can answer with the data you provide.

First off - An ACH debit must be autherised by someone on the account ! Which can even happen over the phone ! If you have'nt autherised these you need go go to the bank and put a stop payment

in play. The bank will charge you a stop payment fee but that will put an end to it happening again ! Hope this was helpfull .

file a formal fraud complaint with Chase and/or the police. Until this is done Chase will keep the account frozen and not even consider any other action. in the meantime, get an account elsewhere if possible.
