After the officer turns it in it is checked by the supervisor. It then goes through admin before being passed on to C.I.D(criminal investigation division). Once there the report is assigned to a detective. He/she will then read over the report to see if there needs to be any further follow up or investigation. Based on his finding he will either no lead the case(basically filed never to see again) or keep it on his caseload to be followed up on. Either way if a report was made on a family member the chance of a warrant being issued without an officer or detective speaking with the family member involved would be rare. This whole process could take awhile (up tp a month) depending on the Dept.

    Good luck
