The thing with dog food is, the bags that have no fillers like corn, cost more BUT you can feed less of it than a cheap dog food bag, because the quality food has denser nutrients. Usually when you buy a dog food from a grocery store, you pay for your dog to poop more (he poops out the fillers)
For example, for a 1 year old 50 lb dog, would need to eat 2-3 cups of Innova a day. But the same dog would need to eat 5-6 cups of Pedigree a day to get the same required amount of nutrients.
so the good food may not seem affordable at first, but it lasts longer so price evens out. PLUS you will have less vet bills to contend with down the road if you feed your dog the best nutrition you can!
Good food are: Wellness, Innova, Taste of the Wild, Nature's variety.
For homemade treats, well i definately recommend getting a Kong and filling it with cream cheese, all natural peanut butter, no sugar added apple sauce, canned sardines, can salmon, etc and freezing it, then giving for a long lasting healthy treat.
