I just pay very close attention to what they are vaccinating for and if it is necessary to vaccinate for. For example, babies are vaccinated for Hep B when they are only hours old, even though there is almost no risk for Hep B for most babies and children, even if they do get it 95% will recover without the need for medical intervention, in fact, most will not even know that they have it!
Pertussis is similar. I know that's a "hot topic" right now, but pertussis (or whooping cough) is generally a minor illness. I had it, as did my siblings and many of my friends. One of my mother's had a friend who's daughter is now severely mentally retarded (she is now 30, with the mental age of a 14 month old) from the old DTP vaccine, so none of us got the vaccine, we all got pertussis and it wasn't a horrible disease, it was just a nasty cough. It can be dangerous for brand new babies, but not for most kids or adults.
These are just two of the most common, but there are more. These are vaccines that are strongly recommended (not required, as many people think) by the CDC, but don't protect against life threatening or life altering diseases.
Measles, Mumps and Rubella are not life threatening in most cases, and the MMR vaccine is not very effective against all three viruses. It is about 95% effective against measles, less against mumps and just over 60% effective against rubella (6 boosters later and I am still not resistant to rubella, what a waste of time and money). These percentages are from Dr. Stephanie Cave's book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations"
I am not saying "Don't Vaccinate", you will never, ever hear me say that. I am only saying to do your research, talk to your pediatrician and make the choice together on a vaccine schedule that works best for your baby. Not all babies are the same. Auto-immune diseases run in my family so I have a more conservative schedule then some families that don't have a family history of such diseases.
Sometimes the CDC schedule is ok for a child, many times it isn't.
Remember that the CDC profits from the sale of vaccines, they have money to make from this, they are not an unbiased company, they are out to make money, no matter what.
