If you think that thousands of people queuing overnight in front of McDonald's for Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel is just a fashion that will fade away in a few months, you are definitely wrong.

Kitty is only the beginning of Taiwan's extraordinary cartoon-mania(卡通狂熱). McDonald's following its great success with Kitty, has announced that it will do the same thing next year with Pikachu, a catlike yellow mite(小不點)from the animated Japanese TV show and video game "Pokemon." Pokemon(口袋怪物)quickly captivated the preteen set in Japan and the United States when it was launched in 1996.

Adults are not immune(免除)to the trend. The marriage of credit cards with cartoon characters like Kitty, Winnie the Pooh, and Miffy has doubled and even tripled the number of cards issued, and it has been reported that more than five local banks have shown an interest in pairing with Pikachu.

To ride the trend, older cartoon characters like Doraemon(小叮噹), the Pink Panther(頑皮豹), and Betty Boop(貝蒂小姐)have been dusted off to launch new products, while newcomers like Tarepanda(趴趴熊), Teletubbies(天線寶寶), and the South Park gang(南方公園)are invading the lucrative market even more aggressively.

    Kitty 只是台灣卡通狂熱迷的開端.. 麥當勞順著Kitty 的成功(行銷) 宣布下一年會做一樣的事情,用Pikachu,從日本卡通節目跟電玩口袋怪物出現的一個輕巧黃色的小不點.. 口袋怪物在1996年推出時,很快的吸引日本跟美國13歲以下的階層..成人沒有被這趨勢給免除. 信用卡的收益增加了2倍甚至3倍,跟Kitty, 小熊維尼, 和 Miffy 等卡通人物關係匪淺.報導指出至少有5家當地銀行表示為皮卡丘配對深感興趣..為了順應潮流比較老的(有歷史的)卡通人物像是小叮噹,頑皮豹,貝蒂小姐除去舊習發行新的產品.

    然而新近出現的像是趴趴熊,天線寶寶,南方公園入侵有利可圖的市場更顯侵略性
