    Okay you want to divide it up into 16ths, because that's the lowest common denominator.

    So:

    1/4 = 4/16

    1/16 = 1/16

    3/8 = 6/16

    Then you add up the 16ths.

    4/16 + 1/16 + 6/16 = 11/16

    Because his estate = 1, you will subtract 11/16 from 1.

    1 = 16/16.

    16/16 - 11/16 = 5/16

    5/16 can't be reduced down any further.

    So in conclusion,

    Child 1 gets: 4/16 or 1/4 (they are equal)

    Child 2 gets: 1/16

    Child 3 gets: 3/8 or 6/16 (again, they are equal)

    Child 4 gets: 5/16

    Hope that helps. =)
