Wipe the entire hard disk. To do this delete all partitions on the disk. Make a new primary hard disk partition but make it just a hair smaller than the old full disk size partition. Make it Primary (bootable). You can do all of this from a Windows XP PRO OEM CD ROM. You can also do this from a Linux System DVD. I prefer SuSE / OpenSuSE. Now that you have the partition you have to format it NTFS for XP. The Linux DVD won't do this, you have to use the WIndows CD-ROM. Don't choose quick format. You want to hard write over everything that was there before so nothing (like viruses) can come back to life and haunt you.

You do not need to reinstall the operating system the Norton Removal Tool you go in your link works well.

    There is a Wikipedia article

The best way to eliminate it would be to reinstall your operating system because I'm assuming this is a new computer because Norton seems to plague all new systems and be super hard to remove.

Choose the download link half way down the page, for your operating system, and run it. It will uninstall whatever norton product you have.

Good Luck, make sure you get another antivirus.
