sampling perfume/cologne before buying?

when buying perfumes or colognes in a store they sometimes throw in some free samples in little .05 fl.oz. or 1.5 ml viles. is alright to ask for a sample vile to take home without buying a fragrance?

rather than spraying a hundred different colognes on your wrists at the store when trying to decide

Update:

yea like that Sean John "unforgiveable" crap. but i was surprised when i bought something last week and they gave me like 5 free samples and 3 of them were Bvlgari so i thought "hey maybe they actually do have good samples"

yea thats fine, but most of the time they don't have what you want to try. unless your looking for jlo or the usher. they don't have ALL fragrances in a sample. usually only a couple.

Sounds OK to me, but make sure your parent's don't misinterpret the smell and think you've had a guy in your bed. Just saying...
