    There are only different between one is formal and another is slang. When the meaning is put a chip for listening someone saying illegally.

    竊聽

    Tap. (formal word)

    Investigators had tapped the drug dealer's phone line.

    Bug. (slang)

    The FBI had bugged his apartment.

    (Bug, the original meaning is small worm. )

    libel is formal language. slander is slang.

    Ex. Later, he learned that he was being sued for slander.

    Ex. Holt sued the newspaper for libel.
