Was Mary and Joseph married at the time of the immaculate conception?

Were Mary and Joseph married at the time of the immaculate conception and did they or did they not already have children at the time? In other words...did Jesus have older siblings?

The Immaculate Conception is the conception of the Virgin Mary to St Anne. I assume you're referring to the Annunciation, in which case it took place when Mary was engaged to Joseph, but not yet married to him.

The virgin birth of Jesus and the Immaculate Conception of Mary are two different religious concepts. The Immaculate Conception is the Roman Catholic doctrine which states that the Virgin Mary was conceived without any stain of original sin. I don't know whether Joseph or some other man was the biological father of Jesus, and it's extremely likely that we will never know who the real father was. I personally do not believe Mary was impregnated by a supernatural being or aliens from Alpha Centauri. I believe she became pregnant in the same way females get pregnant today.

The Immaculate Conception is used when talking about Mary, who was born without original sin. But no, Mary and Joesph were not married when she conceived Jesus. Given that Joesph was an older man, it is possible that he had been widowed and had children from a previous marriage. The bible isn't very clear on the state of Jesus' home life.

No, because it was MARY who was the product of the Immaculate Conception (according to Church doctrine). It means she was believed to have been created free from original sin, and was thus capable of producing Jesus without the taint of original sin. The Immaculate Conception has nothing to do with the Virgin Birth.

When Joseph married Mary, she was 12 years old. Joseph had children from a previous marriage. Thomas was a half brother of Jesus who wrote Gospels, but Early Church Fathers omitted them when they wrote the New Testament, however they are contained in "The Apocrypha" which Christianity doesn't want you to read.

They were only engaged when Jesus was born.

If there were older siblings, they may have been from an earlier marriage of St Joseph's...although I think people are guessing about that.

According to the story, they were engaged, but not married. Since Mary was reportedly a virgin at the time, he could not have had older siblings. But there is some debate on whether he had younger siblings. According to Catholics, she remained a virgin all her life, and so he had no literal siblings. But he refers to men as his brothers here and there, which may have been symbolic, or may have been literal.

It's really, really hard to make the story consistent within itself, let alone with known physical reality.

No they were not married, Mary was a virgin.

That's why Joseph decided he wasn't going to marry Mary. He thought she was sleeping around. But an angel told him to go ahead and marry her because it was from God. So he believed the vision and married her.
