The SCR is probably used as a switch that controls the output of the sensor.

The scr is triggered by a current into the gate that turns the scr on. This causes a near short circuit between the anode and cathode. This allows the external circuit to produce a current between anode and cathode in the scr. The scr turns off when the anode current drops below some fairly low value. Once it turns on the gate cannot turn it off.

If you don't have at least a bachelors level in EE,

Do NOT attempt to even tackle this.

If you do, google SCR, and you're going to need a circuit diagram to make any headway whatsoever.
