When they say a person has an inflamed liver,
they are saying that something is causing the
immune system of the body to respond and
inflammation develops inside the liver.
Some of the causes of a liver problem are:
alcohol consumption, medication toxification,
chemical exposure, biliary obstruction or
mal formation, fatty liver disease, hereditary
conditions, viral hepatitis, and there are others.
When the cells of the liver become damage,
the immune system of the body tries to remove
this damage. Normally, this is a good thing
cause the immune system walls off foreign
things that come into the body (like bacteria or
virus, etc) so it won't advance into other parts
of the body. To do this, it causes inflammation
to develop. However, The Liver is inside
a capsule membrane...so when the immune
system responds now, it causes more pressure
to the liver cells to cause even more cell
damage and can lead to a disease known as
cirrhosis of the liver. Cirrhosis of the liver
are the liver cells dying and forming scar
tissue inside the liver where the blood is
not able to flow through the liver well anymore.
Therefore, the cells don't get the right amount
of oxygen or nourishment they need in order
Sometimes, if the cause can be stopped and
the inflammation is treated with medication...
then the cells of the liver can heal. But sometime
the cause cannot be removed or the patient
refuses to stop what is causing it...then it
will progress to cirrhosis.
Hope this information is of some help to you.
