What are some examples of latent functions?
It would be better to give manifest and the latent function that corresponds to the manifest function.

manifest function of stealing a car - to get the car for free
latent function - reinforces in general society, our central social norms about private possession and 'individualism through property ownership' .
In other words, the crime reinforces the social values by setting in motion yet again, the system of crime and justice to retrieve the car, then punish the criminal, through which we confirm to ourselves that 'stealing is wrong'.
This illustrates Durkheim's argument that crime is functional for society. It sets the boundaries of 'normal behaviour'

Manifest functions and dysfunctions are conscious and deliberate, the latent ones the unconscious and unintended. Berger, 1963 While functions are intended (manifest) or recognized (latent), and have a positive effect on society, dysfunctions are unintended (manifest) or unrecognized (latent) and have a negative effect on society.
