it might be your hd has a bad sector especially on boot.

if you can log on to safemode, type on the run command "chkdsk /r /f" (without the qoutes) then restart the computer.

Try starting up in safe mode. If it starts in safe mode then check to see what's loading during normal windows boot up.

    1. Hit start button (bottom left)

    2. Hit run

    3. type msconfig

    3. select start up from the window that popped up.

    5. Deselect any programs you do not recognize. Anything that says C:\Program Files can safely be disabled or unchecked. Anything that says C:\Windows cannot be disabled or unchecked.

Did you download or install any new programs recently? If so, uninstall those programs and delete those files while in safe mode.

If it does not start in safe mode then re-install your OS from the install disk that came with the computer.

Other than that you might want to start looking into formatting the Hard drive and doing a clean install of your OS.

can you start it in safe mode? Restart and hit f8 before the xp logo starts and see if it starts in safe mode.

if it does, try running a disc check

If not, and you have your xp disc, you can load that then restart then boot from disc and try recovery console.

If you installed any new software or drivers, that may be the source.

These are the things off the top of my head I can think of right now

    Run it in safe mode.

You can get into safe mode by hitting F8 before the logo comes up.

You can then run diagnostics when you get into safemode

If you cant get into safe mode, u need your xp cd, and you need to do a repair installation.

you need to test the hd to see if IT failed or if it's a boot disk error.

    If you can't repair,

I would try to wipe it clean and reinstall windows using the CD.
