Should Republican senators STAND STRONG TOGETHER and FILLIBUSTER Obama's Stimulus plan?
After all the CRAP that Obamabots have said how Obama would have a "fillibuster" proof senate and failed; shouldn't the Republicans send a friendly reminder to Obama and company that there is no fillibuster proof senate and that Obama can't throw in junk like tax breaks for people who never paid taxes to people who are not even citizens like obama's aunt?
Everyone’s getting a ride on the stimulation-palooza bandwagon–including illegal aliens. Of course. Congress and the White House supposedly are sending the money to people so they can spend, spend, spend it to give the U.S. economy a jolt. What will the illegal aliens do with their rebates? Remittances, baby, remittances. Rep. Tom Tancredo, whom I noted earlier this morning was one of the 25 Republicans who voted against the economic stimulus boondoggle, blasts the new illegal immigration stimulus:
Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today criticized the tax package passed by the Tom Tancredo Democrat-controlled Congress as a giveaway to illegal aliens. The package, among other shortcomings, would direct the Internal Revenue Service to issue checks of up to $600 to individuals and $1,200 to married couples, as well as rebates for any children. The legislation does not, however, contain any provision barring illegal aliens from taking advantage of these benefits.
“This package will stimulate one thing for certain: more illegal immigration,” said Tancredo. “It’s just the latest unfortunate example of American workers footing the bill for illegal aliens.”
The bill would allow so-called “Resident Aliens” to receive rebate checks. The Treasury department classifies someone as a “Resident Alien” based on how much time that person has spent in the United States. No proof of legal presence, however, is required. The IRS’ explanation of the term can be found at: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc851.html
“Worse, a large portion of this money will just be sent back to the home countries of illegal aliens,” concluded Tancredo. “So it might stimulate someone’s economy – just not ours.”
Obamabots wake up and stop drinking the Kool Aid the majority of Republicans and Republican leaders are not going to line up behind your Messiah
For the same reason you never did the same for Republican leades.
A filibuster, or "talking out a bill", is a form of obstruction in a legislature or other decision-making body. An attempt is made to infinitely extend debate upon a proposal in order to delay the progress or completely prevent a vote on the proposal taking place.
The term 'filibuster' was first used in 1851. It was derived from the Spanish filibustero meaning 'pirate' or 'freebooter'. This term had in turn evolved from the French word flibustier, which itself evolved from the Dutch vrijbuiter (freebooter). This term was applied at the time to American adventurers, mostly from Southern states, who sought to overthrow the governments of Central American states, and was transferred to the users of the filibuster, seen as a tactic for pirating or hijacking debate.
The term first came into use in the United States Senate, where Senate rules permit a senator, or a series of senators, to speak for as long as they wish and on any topic they choose, unless a supermajority of three-fifths of the Senate (60 Senators, if all 100 seats are filled) brings debate to a close by invoking cloture.

at recent there are fifty seven democratic Senators, 2 independents and 40-one republicans. It in basic terms take 40-one to hold a filibuster, so this is available. If seven of the democrats swap factors and the two independents flow with the republicans the bill can no longer bypass. it can be a tie vote. We had better wish that some miracle occurs of our u . s . a . would be crusing down the River of No return and into the annals of historical past, to be heard from not greater different than in legend and song in the way forward for our grand infants. A land that lives in basic terms in the fables instructed at mattress time, of a difficulty stated as freedom and liberty, that shall on no account stay returned.

The Republicans will not stand together because you already have a rip in your party line .. created by conservatives . . moderate or centrist Republicans will bail on any idea for this immediately and side with Democrats.
Any fillibuster would just prove to make the Democrats stronger.

That's a good question. The Republicans should think about what they believe in. If they are consistent with their latest bout of propaganda, against the 'redistribution of wealth' and 'socialism', then of course they should be against all bailouts and stimulus plans. That is where they were in 1929, and it took 50 years until Reagan to get back to those ideas. And even then, Reagan did not dismantle the New Deal and Fair Deal programs like Social Security (he doubled the payroll tax), EPA and Education Dept and so on like he suggested he might do.
But, good luck with that.

I absolutely agree with Tancredo on his analysis and think that we need a provision barring illegals from the stimulus. He is absolutely right that most of this money would be sent to Mexico anyways. Why not be honest and just send Mexico a stimulus check as well?
I don't know why people think illegals have the same right to our health care, driver licenses, and education. In fact illegals have access to in-state tuition that many American people do not have the right to. Someone from CT would first have to declare residency in CA before they receive the same rights as illegals.

Yes they should, it is ridiculous. They are giving illegals, and people who don't pay taxes a check. I'm sorry, but that is wrong on so many levels. I hope the Republicans in the House, and in the Senate fight Obama, every step of the way.

Well - the Democrats could try to pull the same crap the Republicans pulled when they had a majority - changing the filibuster rule to require a larger number of senators. But I just don't see Democrats stooping to that level.

Most of your "information" is incorrect. And many Republicans already support the measure. If someone paid taxes, they will get a rebate IF there is one. I agree with most of the economists who say that a $500 rebate will NOT do anything for the economy.

Yes. And for any other Gov't give away with no accountability. Except for Gov't cheese! That stuff is so good that I'd actually pay for it!
