His father did not just pass away he was murdered by a mob family after MJ because he could not pay them off after his gambling problem escalated him into owing the mob family $ after losing in their casino. Since, his dad was a professional baseball player and because he always promised his dad he would play baseball in his honor when his father was murdered he did it in dedication to his father.

His dad got murdered. His dad always wanted Michael to play Baseball. Michael also lost interest in the game because he already won 3 titles, MVP, defensive player, Olympic medalist. So he honored his dad. But his career in Baseball wasn't good.

He was just so good that he got bored and he wanted to see if he could master another sport.

David Stern encouraged Jordan to retire temporarily so he could quietly sweep his gambling problems under the rug

The thing about his father passing away and wanting to spend more time with his family was B.S.
